FIM, YOUTHSTREAM AND TEAMS MEETING IN ITALY FOR THE FUTURE OF SUPERMOTO
10/8/2006
BUSCA (ITALY)-On Saturday the 7th of October Supermoto took another step forward thanks to the meeting of FIM/CMS, promoter Youthstream and Teams racing the World series.
FIM/CMS President Wolfgang Srb, Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo and all Team Managers discussed many details about the future of Supermoto.
Youthstream's commitment in the sport was confirmed: the company will continue to work hard and invest in Supermoto. Youthstream manages also the FIM Motocross World Championship and will make the most of such experience to help Supermoto growing.
Motocross is actually a much older sport than Supermoto, which is facing a whole world but still needs to grow.
Time, hard work and cooperation between Teams, manufacturers and promoter Youthstream will be the key elements to succeed.
During yesterday's meeting all Teams proposed to switch the S1 and S2 classes, naming the 450cc bikes S1 and the Open ones S2. FIM, Youthstream and MSMA will take a decision during the next GP Commission in Athens, at the last round of the FIM Supermoto World Championship.
For all rounds of the 2007 season the European Supermoto Championship managed by Youthstream will race together with the FIM Supermoto World Championship. The European Supermoto riders will have a dedicated class, the S3, with only 250cc bikes, either 2 or 4 strokes. All riders will be under 25. Each Team of the World Championship plans to have at least one youngster racing the European Championship next year: such an organization will let Teams have extra riders in the S3 class without extra costs. Moreover youngsters will have the chance to race in the best tracks of the world.
FIM, Youthstream and Teams all agreed about bringing the FIM Supermoto World Championship also outside Europe in the future. In 2008 there will be one round in South Africa for which Youthstream will support the Teams in their trip to the continent.
Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo said: "I am extremely satisfied of the relationship between FIM, Youthstream and Teams. The meeting we had yesterday was characterized by a friendly and cooperative atmosphere and there was reciprocal respect. If possible we will repeat such meetings in any race: it is a pleasure to work with professionals who appreciate our work and efforts for the growth of the enthralling Supermoto. We all believe that Supermoto will have a brilliant future but for that we have to work harder and harder and never surrender in front of problems; we will continue to believe thanks to our passion for the sport. This is the way we will reach our goals. I have to thank all manufacturers and Teams for their commitment to development of the machines; time goes by and Supermoto bikes continuously improve their technology. At the moment they are like technology jewels and are totally different from the home made bikes coming out of the garages five years ago".
